Objective 2.6: Responsible Transportation
Through bike club, students and teachers are weekly going on bicycle rides in the community. We have even taught a new refugee student how to ride bicycles. We have logged over 10 rides in the 2015-2016 school year.
Outdoor Club - Bike Club
Students participated in bike rides around Federal Hill on the following dates: 9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/28, 11/11, 12/2, 1/13, 2/10, 4/6, 4/13, 4/20, 4/27, and 5/3. Most rides took students and teachers from Digital Harbor to the Harbor, Latrobe Park, the Under Armor building, and Fort McHenry.
Proposal to Increase More Bike Lanes
Ms. McDonald's English class proposed more bike lanes in the city as an issue of poverty and environmental issues. They created a petition, received 181 signatures and made the video below.

Bicycle Repair and Maintenance
Students are learning how to repair and maintain bicycles. They eventually will be able to repair and maintain their own bikes which they can use for their personal transportation. We have logged over 300 hours of work in the garage.

Digital Harbor Bike Sales
In order to improve responsible, safe, and environmentally-sound transportation in our Federal Hill community, the bike club began selling repaired and refurbished bicycles to the community. We, with the help, guidance, and support of our amazing volunteer, Evan Mickel, sold bikes which were collected from local landfills, which the students repaired, and netted over $1,000 for our club! We turned trash into TREASURE which will improve responsible transportation for the city of Baltimore. Students learn entrepreneurial skills as well as customer service skills.
Donation to Station North Tool Library
To improve responsible transportation around the city, The DHHS Bike Club with the guidance and leadership of our volunteer, Evan Mickel, made a two bike (classic, vintage) donation to Station North Tool Library's loan inventory. This is the first time they have offered bikes to their members. Our Digital Harbor Bike Club also donated helmets, tool repair kits, and bike locks.
