Objective 2.5 Structures for Environmental Learning
Baltimore Inspiring Connections
|
CampingEach semester we have weekend camping opportunities for students to experience sleeping outdoors in tents. Students receive service learning for assisting the Phillip's Warf Environmental Center with their fishmobile and learning about the ecology the Chesapeake Bay.
We also partner with the Baltimore City Parks and Rec to Hike, Camp, and Boat outside of school hours. Environmental ExperincesClasses at Digital Harbor and the BICO have the opportunity to work with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and have experiences with the Foundation's Boats, such as the Snow Goose. They experience water testing, oyster restoration, habitat restoration, and using technology to determine the quality of the water.

BikingNot only do we have our own Bike Club, we also partner with the Baltimore City Parks and Recreation to bike the Gwynns Falls Trail. Thus far in the 2015-2016 school year, we have logged over 10 group bicycle rides and have logged over 80 hours of work in the bike garage where students work to repair, rebuild, and responsibly ride bicycles.
HikingDigital Harbor BICO partners with the Baltimore City Parks and Recreation to hike on the Gwynns Falls Trail, learning about geographic land forms and how humans use the land in that area.
Canoeing and KayakingWith the Inner Harbor right outside our school, we work with the Baltimore City Parks and Recreation to canoe or kayak from the Boat House to Masonville Cove Environmental Center to learn about Environmental Restoration.
