5.3 - School-wide behavior change -
- During 2nd Quarter, I worked to promote staff at Digital work on recycling in their classrooms and offices and also saving energy by turning off lights. Digital held on day of service on 12-9-16 where students earned service learning hours to complete service in school. I had my students collect recyclables from teachers and staff and made posters to promote recycling and energy saving.
- On the day of service, our students collected over 500 bottles, 61 cans, boxes and boxes of used toner cartridges, and too many paper recyclables to mention! The students who did not participate in the recycling collection, made posters promoting litter collection, recycling, and turning off the lights to save energy.
- Future initiative:
- promote use of reusable water bottles to limit use of plastic bottles, this will coincide with a fund raiser of Digital Harbor water bottles to use funds for further green efforts for the school
5.5.7 - Healthy School Environment
- Future efforts include:
- Working students and staff to promote cleaner air initiatives by planting indigenous Maryland plants and trees around campus
- Working with Science teachers to plant, care for and maintain a host of indoor plants
5.6 - Community Partnerships
- Working with Federal Hill Neighborhood Association and South Baltimore Neighborhood Association to work in collaboration to promote neighborhood clean ups and working with Green Team.
- several neighbors have expressed interest in donating supplies (bags, gloves, etc.) and rewards (food, pizza) to help with clean ups and keep students motivated and rewarded for efforts
- Communicating with neighbors school efforts to keep neighborhood clean and our green efforts
- Upcoming events for when weather is more cooperative:
- arranging community and school cooperative clean ups that coincide with citywide Mayor clean ups
- getting more volunteers with community members to work with students and school on green efforts and education of environmental issues and purpose of greening efforts
- banning of Styrofoam at Digital (working with Clair Wainwright at Baltimore Offices of Sustainability Smart Challenges

We finally had a neighbor come out to help with the Green Team, Susie Chisolm. Susie came to the school on 5/9/2017 and met with members of the Green Team and also helped to pick up litter on campus and on Cross Street.
