Activities since last website update:
1. Solid Waste Recycling:
We have continued our efforts to have students earn service hours by recycling plastic containers, bottles and aluminum cans in my classroom and those of our colleagues. An large number of hours have been logged since the last submission. We will continue this until the very last day of the school year and anticipate this total to increase substantially. We have single stream recycling so Aluminum cans and plastic bottles all go into the same dumpster. Baltimore City picks up the paper recycling once a week from our loading dock. The students are involved in removing bags of paper recycling from teacher classrooms and placing them in the loading dock for pick-up. Please find pictures from our student service learning records below. These are followed by pictures of students recycling various types of waste.

2. Green Activities: Students have spent time and effort planting herbs in the school/community garden. Due to the extended winter, we were able to get out a few days ago and students planted cilantro, beans and basil directly in the soil. They were educated earlier about the honey bees and interacted safely with them. While there are no pictures of our 'produce' yet, we hope to visit the garden once or twice a week so that students can take care of their herbs as well as tend to the garden if needed. Service learning hours will be given to students who show engagement and contribute efforts to maintain the garden. Some pictures from the planting day are shown below:

B. Students have also been earning service learning hours by watering green plants and turning out lights in classrooms at the end of school days.
C. School wide clean-up/Recycling Day:
In March, I organized a school wide clean-up drive and contacted the staff at our school to sign-up for any assistance they needed in their classrooms and with recycling. A few pictures are attached. >50 service learning hours were awarded to students for the various endeavors they completed around the building. This was our first school wide clean up day and we are hoping for even more success the next time we announce it. A few pictures are below:
